Winnetka Primary Bath Tub Remodel

By Bryan Slowick | Sep 03, 2024

Our customer’s primary bathroom in Winnetka was in desperate need of a transformation. The existing tub was not only outdated and leaking but also too large for comfort and unsafe to get in and out of. The BDS team was able to create a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing space while addressing the issues of the leaking tub and outdated design.

The original tub, installed in 2006, required thorough investigation to find materials that would blend seamlessly with the existing elements. BDS sourced a proportionally sized tub designed for one person, ensuring it fit comfortably within the space. While we reused the luxury faucet, we customized a tub drain control for improved accessibility, making it easier to use and maintain.

improved access

To enhance safety and functionality, the BDS team added steps and a bench to the tub area. These additions not only improved ease of use but also provided a comfortable spot for sitting. Custom grab bars were strategically installed to ensure safe entry and exit, addressing the primary concern of the tub being unsafe.

Finding the perfect materials was crucial for this project

Our BDS team explored multiple locations and examined various slabs to find the best match for the quartzite top. The goal was to blend seamlessly with the existing decor while enhancing the overall aesthetic. Dozens of tiles were considered to ensure they complemented the field tiles perfectly.

To avoid future leaks, we implemented full under-tub waterproofing and installed a water sensor connected to the house alarm system. This proactive approach ensures any potential leaks are detected early, preventing damage and giving homeowners peace of mind.

To add a touch of style, BDS added a new mosaic tile design to the risers leading up to the tub deck. This not only adds visual interest but also ties the design together beautifully. We lightened the overall aesthetic by eliminating the dark, heavy feel of the alcove and the original wood deck. The result is a brighter, more inviting space that feels both modern and luxurious.

THOUGHTFUL DESIGN AND CAREFUL PLANNING

This Winnetka primary bathroom transformation is a testament to thoughtful design and careful planning. By addressing safety concerns, enhancing functionality, and meticulously selecting materials, the BDS team created a bathroom that is both beautiful and practical. The new tub not only fits seamlessly into the space but also provides a safe and comfortable experience for the homeowner. With added waterproofing and a modern, lighter aesthetic, the bathroom now feels like a luxurious retreat.
