The laundry room’s door layout further restricted usable space, with doors constantly obstructing something when open. The BDS team reimagined each area with both safety and style.

Creating a Safer, More Efficient Kitchen

The initial kitchen setup had a cooktop right on the island, making it difficult to keep curious little hands out of harm’s way. The BDS team moved the range to an outside wall allowing us to shift the cooking zone further from high-traffic areas. This created more staging space on a new, expanded island. The stunning large island became a centerpiece for family gatherings as well as offering much-needed seating and ample space for food prep, meals, and everyday activities. A careful reconfiguration of the kitchen’s work triangle allowed us to maximize efficiency, making meal prep easier and ensuring that everything is within reach. This functional flow creates a space where busy parents can cook, supervise, and interact with their kids without feeling cramped or overcrowded.

Overhauling the Mudroom for Maximum Efficiency

The BDS team next tackled the mudroom in this Libertyville remodel. The adjacent mudroom and laundry area needed an overhaul to maximize space and create order. One door was replaced with a barn door, saving floor space and eliminating the frustrating issue of doors blocking each other. Custom-built cubbies and a new bench now make it easy for the family to organize shoes, coats, bags, and more as they come in through the garage. We also re-positioned the bench and sink to create a better layout for both laundry and mudroom activities, transforming it into a multifunctional drop zone where everything has its place. Converting the pantry door to a barn door was another small change that made a big difference, freeing up floor space while coordinating with the new mudroom layout.
