5 Important Upgrades you can do to your Kitchen

By Bryan Slowick | Mar 26, 2016

When it comes to home renovations, nothing will provide you with a greater return on your investment than a kitchen upgrade. Here are five of the most important upgrades any homeowner should consider doing.

#1. Adding new Kitchen Cabinets
Cabinets that are old or worn can give your kitchen an outdated, tired appearance. In addition, if you lack the right amount of storage space or otherwise find your cabinets are not functional, day-to-day living can be cumbersome. A quality set of cabinets may be one of the most expensive investments you will ever make; however, it will also provide you with increased selling power whenever it is time to place your home on the market.

#2. Installing new Countertops
Aside from cabinets, countertops are the next thing that will date your kitchen. If your countertops are chipped, stained or contain cracks, they will present an unsightly appearance and detract from your kitchen’s overall look. Countertops that are faddish colors will also give the impression that your home has not been modernized, when in fact that may not at all be the case. Choosing a neutral color or going with a timeless classic such as a granite countertop can go a long way toward making your kitchen seem more modern and trendy.

#3. Upgrading your Appliances
Your appliances are one of the first things that catch the eye. If they don’t match or are outdated styles or colors, they can really detract from your kitchen’s appearance. Stainless steel appliances never go out of style, and will also go well with either dark or light wood cabinets. Solid black appliances also provide a very elegant look, especially with white or light wood cabinets. For best results, choose appliances that are the right size. You may like the look of a double oven, but if it is disproportionate, it will stick out like a sore thumb. Likewise, a refrigerator that is too large or too small for its intended space will also appear awkward.

#4. Building an Island Cooktop
An island cooktop can transform your kitchen in a number of ways. Installing a second cooktop will allow multiple people to work at the same time, something you’ll find very convenient if you regularly entertain. You may even want to consider an induction worktop, which will provide you with faster cooking times for preparing everyday meals. Advanced models even automatically adjust to the size of your pan for greater efficiency.

#5. Installing Smart Faucets
Smart faucets are something that will make everyday tasks such as washing your hands or rinsing pans much easier. Not only do these smart faucets provide an elegant look, but they are also very efficient, allowing you to adjust the angle of water flow to meet your exact needs. Other smart faucets will provide you with boiling water instantly to make preparing hot drinks, cereal, or soup a breeze.

Any of these upgrades will fundamentally transform the look of your kitchen, while also making it easier for you to prepare delicious meals. Not only that, but you will continue to enjoy the benefits for years to come.
