About the Project
Our Libertyville homeowners have recently settled into their home and were ready for a complete transformation of their space. The family has young children who are eager to join in on kitchen activities. Their original layout posed challenges: a cramped island with an awkward shape and no seating, a cooktop situated in the island that brought kids uncomfortably close to hot surfaces, a poorly arranged work triangle, and outdated style and lighting. The laundry room’s door layout further restricted usable space, with doors constantly obstructing something when open. The BDS team reimagined each area with both safety and style. The range was moved to an outside wall, providing more staging space on a larger, multi-functional island with seating, keeping the cooking zone safely distanced from the children. In the mudroom and laundry the door was replaced with a space-saving barn door, and the bench and sink were repositioned for a much-improved layout. Custom-built cubbies and a new bench enhanced the mudroom’s functionality, creating an organized drop zone just inside the garage entrance. The pantry door was also converted to a barn door, preventing it from interfering with the improved mudroom layout. Bright, modern lighting, including under-cabinet lights, now creates a light, fresh space. Updated finishes and a vibrant backsplash add character and personality, elevating the kitchen to match the homeowners' style while enhancing everyday functionality.
