Our Evanston homeowners were looking to revitalize their aging kitchen and living room. The existing spaces featured darker, outdated colors, cabinetry, and appliances that no longer reflected the homeowners’ style or the way they used the space. Rather than completely gutting the kitchen, they wanted to make thoughtful use of the elements that were still in good condition. The BDS team developed a renovation plan that preserved select existing cabinets while giving them a fresh look with new doors and a lighter paint color. A newer dishwasher was also used, while outdated appliances were replaced with modern selections. A new island provides additional seating, while new island cabinetry, accent-colored finishes, and updated lighting create a focal point within the space. Open shelving with integrated task lighting helps to brighten the kitchen, while cabinet inserts add organization and functionality. The BDS team also replaced outdated water piping and electrical throughout the space, providing modern infrastructure to support the updated kitchen. Adjacent closet doors were also updated to coordinate with the cabinetry for a cohesive look. The transformation extended into the living room, where the fireplace and hearth were modernized to complement the new kitchen design. Fresh paint throughout both spaces further brightened the home, creating a lighter, more inviting environment. The space is now a refreshed kitchen and living area that brings the homeowners the modern style and improved functionality they needed.
